By organizing Urban Mobility Forum in its member countries, the CMI aims to be as close as possible to the issues and concerns of local and national decision makers. This forum, co-organized with the Ministry in charge of urban transport of the hosting country aims at addressing actual burning urban transport issues, using a largely participative approach.
Following the success of the events organized in Jordan (2015), Tunis (2014) and Rabat (2013), the Urban Mobility Forum will occur in Cairo on the 21st and 22nd of November 2016. This event will be held under the title « Out-of-the-fares-box financial mechanisms » and relies on an international expertise and a narrow collaboration with local actors as meetings will gather local and national stakeholders, such as political decision makers, representatives from municipalities and the different ministries, transport companies, associations and universities, as well as international experts.
The main aim of the Urban Mobility Forum will be to gather all the stakeholders involved in the organisation and operation of public transport in Cairo in order to discuss about « out-of-the-fares-box financial mechanisms » for urban transport in Cairo and other Egyptian cities and come-up with one or two appropriate solutions. The Forum will be focused on Cairo metro system, but the contributions and the conclusions will be relevant also for other cities and other transport’s system like the tramway of Alexandria.
Six thematic sessions will aim at addressing major financial topics such as advertising, ticketing, land and value capture, managing and operating cost as well as other innovative ideas. CODATU will provide further information soon.
